Students at Battle Creek Montessori Academy (BCMA) participate in our Character Education Program throughout the school year, designed to help students develop personal character and become life-long learners. In this program, we focus on a different character trait every month to embrace, this month being respect. We chose 8 students here at BCMA that truly exemplified and embraced our character trait of the month, all of which are pictured below.
The Character Choices curriculum is aligned with our Common Core Standards, making a regular part of the school day and including it with our everyday dialogue. What makes our program unique is that we focus on several aspects with every month. These include a focus on developing social and academic behaviors, promoting both parent and community involvement, being tech-smart kids on social media and an Annual Spring Character Choices Expression writing contest for a chance at a scholarship. Students and teachers work together to practice each trait in writing, reading and through action, with October’s focus trait being responsibility.
